Rolf Weber (born March 13, 1923 in St. Gallen ; † February 29, 2000 in Arbon TG , legal domicile in Zurich ) was a Swiss lawyer and politician ( SP ).

Life

Max Rudolf, called Rolf, Weber grew up in Bern , where he attended the municipal high school from 1938 to 1942. His father was the finance scientist, union official and later Federal Councilor Max Weber . After graduating from high school, Weber studied law at the University of Bern. In 1948 he obtained the advocacy patent. Two years later he did his doctorate with a thesis on the administration of administrative justice by the Federal Council. In 1949 he took over the law firm founded by Eduard Naef in Arbon. He also worked as a part-time vice governor . In 1954 he was elected to the Arbon District Court, where he served as President until his retirement in 1988.

On July 15, 1950, he married Rosmarie Kocherhans (born April 6, 1925 in Muri near Bern ; † August 31, 1998 in Solothurn ). The marriage produced three children.

politics

In 1949 Rolf Weber joined the Social Democratic Party. In the Arbon section, together with Ernst Rodel , Josef Rickenbach and other personalities , he shaped party life. From 1952 to 1970 he was a member of the executive branch of what was then the local community of Arbon, the so-called local administration. In 1953 the voters elected him to the Grand Council , to which he belonged until 1980 and which he presided over in 1969/70. In 1965 the SP Thurgau, which was already represented on the government council by Rudolf Schümperli from Romanshorn, wanted to win a second seat in the five-member executive with Weber. This project failed. Weber was defeated by his opponent Erich Böckli from the FDP . From 1970 to 1987 Weber was a member of the National Council . In 1970 he succeeded Albert Bauer, who died in office on January 11, 1970 . In 1975 he was discussed as the successor to SPS President Arthur Schmid . As a member of the National Council, he was part of the commission that prepared the federal judges' elections for a long time. Rolf Weber was particularly concerned with constitutional issues. He would have had several opportunities to become a federal judge. The first instance court activity at the Arbon District Court, which at that time was still compatible with such an important political mandate, always pleased Weber more.
