The RollDock S or ST class is a heavy lift / dock ship class comprising five ships . The lead ship, the Rolldock Sun , was built 18 months late in 2010 at the Indian shipyard Larsen & Toubro . The ships are the first ships of the RollDock shipping company. They are among the most powerful and modern ships of their kind.

history

After RollDock had completed the preliminary development of the ships in-house, a four-ship construction contract with the option for a further four ships was agreed with the Larsen & Toubro shipyard in Hazira in 2006 . Due to delays in construction, RollDock canceled the orders for the third and fourth ship of the first lot and waived the use of the four options. By December 2011, two of the ships ordered in 2006, the RollDock Sun and the RollDock Sea , were in service. Instead, two units in an improved and larger modification than the ST class were ordered from the Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft . The RollDock Star was completed in December 2013, the RollDock Storm followed in June 2014. After Larsen & Toubro had completed the third ship it had begun in 2016 on their own account, RollDock finally took it over - also to rule out a takeover by competitors.

Technical specifications

The ship class combines various properties of different types of heavy lifters. With its two 350 t cranes (combined SWL 700 t) it can load and unload cargo conventionally ( lift on / lift off procedure ). The ship class also has an adjustable stern ramp that can be loaded with a maximum of 4000 t ( roll on / roll off process ). In addition, the ship can lower itself and thus take up floating cargo up to a maximum of 7000 t ( float in / float out procedure ).

With a maximum draft of 5.67 m, the ships have a load capacity of 8,000  dwt (S-class) or 9,000 dwt (ST-class). However, the draft in the submerged state is up to 12.40 m, then the hold has a water-filled depth of 6.50 m. The approximately 116 meters (S-Class) or approximately 119 meters (ST-Class) long loading space can be loaded with up to 17,000 m³ (S-Class) or 18,768 m³ (ST-Class) bulk goods. The maximum load on the tank top is 12 t / m². The Liebherr - Cranes come in a radius of up to 18 meters with a lifting capacity of 350 t (700 combines t). With a delivery of up to 33 meters, 200 t can still be lifted.

As with all dock ships, the superstructures are attached to the front. This has several advantages: On the one hand, visibility is not restricted when there is a high load (see also line of sight ), and on the other hand, the load is not exposed to any sea hammer. In addition, only the rear flap and thus the RoRo or FliFlo process is possible.

The type of ship is powered by two 4,500 per  kW strong diesel engine driven. The 9,000 kW accelerate the ships fully loaded to a maximum of 18 and 17  knots via two controllable pitch propellers . The ships are classified with ice class E2 (up to 0.8 meters average ice thickness) by Germanischer Lloyd .
