Romain Feillu (born April 16, 1984 in Châteaudun ) is a French cyclist .

Career

Romain Feillu first drew attention to himself in 2002 when he came second in the junior class at the Chrono des Herbiers . In 2005 he began his career as a trainee with the French Professional Continental Team Agritubel . In the following year he was able to win the overall ranking of the Tour de la Somme ; At the road cycling world championships in Salzburg , he won the silver medal in the U23 road race behind the German Gerald Ciolek .

Romain Feillu has been a professional since 2007; until 2009 he was under contract with Agritubel . In his first season as a professional cyclist he was able to land several successes: In addition to a stage success at the Tour of Luxembourg and victory at Paris-Bourges, he also secured the overall ranking of the Tour of Britain .

Romain Feillu became known in the 2008 season, which he could only start in mid-May due to a long, illness-related forced break due to toxoplasmosis . On the third stage of the Tour de France , after a successful breakaway attempt, he won the overall leader's yellow jersey , which he was unable to defend in the individual time trial the following day.
