Romain Feillu (born April 16, 1984 in Châteaudun ) is a French cyclist .
Career
Romain Feillu first drew attention to himself in 2002 when he came second in the junior class at the Chrono des Herbiers . In 2005 he began his career as a trainee with the French Professional Continental Team Agritubel . In the following year he was able to win the overall ranking of the Tour de la Somme ; At the road cycling world championships in Salzburg , he won the silver medal in the U23 road race behind the German Gerald Ciolek .
Romain Feillu has been a professional since 2007; until 2009 he was under contract with Agritubel . In his first season as a professional cyclist he was able to land several successes: In addition to a stage success at the Tour of Luxembourg and victory at Paris-Bourges, he also secured the overall ranking of the Tour of Britain .
Romain Feillu became known in the 2008 season, which he could only start in mid-May due to a long, illness-related forced break due to toxoplasmosis . On the third stage of the Tour de France , after a successful breakaway attempt, he won the overall leader's yellow jersey , which he was unable to defend in the individual time trial the following day. Both in 2008 and 2009 Feillu had to end the Tour de France prematurely.
Feillu, who is considered a sprinter, achieved his most important victories in one-day races in 2009 and 2010 at the Grand Prix de Fourmies .
