Roman Anatoljewitsch Berezovskij ( Russian Роман Анатольевич Березовский / Roman Anatol'evič Berezovskij, Armenian Ռոման Բերեզովսկի ; born August 5, 1974 in Yerevan , Armenian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a former Armenian football player of Ukrainian origin.

Club career

Berezovsky began his professional career in 1991, still during the Soviet Union , in the second-rate club Koschkagorz Yerevan . The first Armenian championship season he started with Schengawit Yerevan and finished it with Sjunik Kapan . The war situation on the border with Azerbaijan made him look for his chance in 1993 in Saint Petersburg , where he first played a season with Sputnik-Kirovets Saint Petersburg . The next season, Berezovsky came to Zenit St. Petersburg . Since he was only used there in 5 games, the club loaned him to Saturn-1991 Saint Petersburg in 1995 due to lack of match practice . But even there he only played three games.

After returning to Zenit St. Petersburg , Berezovsky spent the best years of his career there. In the five years at the Saint Petersburg club, he allowed only 110 goals in 118 games. In 1997 the newspaper “ Sport-Express ” named him “Best Goalkeeper of the Russian Championship”. In 1999 he won the Russian Football Cup with his club . This year, Berezovsky took 3rd place among goalkeepers in the list of 33 best players in the Russian championship .

In 1999 , Vyacheslav Malafeyev, who came from the city, started as a goalkeeper at Zenit St. Petersburg . When Berezovsky was suspended for insulting a referee, Malafeyev made his debut. However, he had no chance of becoming number one against Berezovsky.

In 2001 Berezovsky moved to Moscow, first to Torpedo Moscow and then to Dynamo Moscow , in whose gate he spent the next four years. With the capital city clubs he has not won any trophies in the many games. In 2006 Berezovsky went to FK Khimki , won the championship of Russia's second division with his club and rose with him to the Premjer League for 3 years . During this time, Berezovsky received four other awards:

  • 3rd place among goalkeepers based on the number of matches without conceding in the Russian championship;
  • first place among goalkeepers by number of goals conceded in the Russian championship;
  • Record holder for the number of penalties saved in Soviet and Russian football.
  • He became the 26th member of the Lev Yashin Club : The game FK Chimki - Amkar Perm (2-0) was his hundredth game without conceding a goal.

On April 15, 2008 was elected team captain of FK Chimki .

The last contract with his club for one year signed Berezovsky on December 27, 2010. With a new contract on February 2, 2012 he went back to his former club Dynamo Moscow .
