Roman Kofman

Roman Isaakowytsch Kofman ( Ukrainian Роман Ісаакович Кофман ; born June 15, 1936 in Kiev , Ukraine ) is a Ukrainian conductor . Since 1990 he has been the artistic director and chief conductor of the Kiev Chamber Orchestra. From 2003 to 2008 he worked as general music director in the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn . Kofman has been awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (2008) and the ECHO Klassik Prize (2007).

Roman Kofman studied at the National Music Academy of Ukraine with Michael Kanerschtein. From 1963 he worked as concertmaster in the Kiev Chamber Orchestra. Since 1990 he has been the artistic director and chief conductor of the Kiev Chamber Orchestra, which has become a world class ensemble during this time. In the early 1990s he founded the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine. He has conducted 70 orchestras worldwide in Europe, America, Asia and Africa (including the West German Radio Orchestra , the Bern Symphony Orchestra , the Bavarian Radio Orchestra , the Central German Radio , the Saarland Radio , the Munich Philharmonic ).

As a professor of conducting , he teaches at the National Music Academy of Ukraine . He also led master classes in Germany and Ukraine.
