Roman Summereder
Roman Summereder (born June 12, 1954 in Ried im Innkreis ) is an Austrian organist , music researcher, publicist and professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
Life
After graduating from the Humanistic Gymnasium in his hometown, he completed studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna (church music and organ with Anton Heiller , at the Vienna Conservatory, music theory and composition with Kurt Schwertsik and at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles in the harpsichord class of Robert Kohnen ). He worked as a répétiteur with the Wiener Jeunesse Choir and the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz, followed by a pedagogical career at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, where from 1979/80 he first taught score playing, later also basso continuo , in 1999 with the Head of an organ class and in 2002 was appointed full professor at the newly founded Institute for Organ, Organ Research and Church Music. Master classes, readings, workshops, organ concerts and extensive journalistic activities complement his diverse musical and scientific activities.
Roman Summereder gives concerts on historical and modern instruments. Organ music of the 20th and 21st centuries. forms a focus of his repertoire, which is now documented with CD recordings. There are also world premieres and Austrian premieres. In 2003 he worked with György Ligeti's “Volumina” in the documentary “Grenzklänge - The György Ligeti Phenomenon”, which ORF produced for the composer's 80th birthday (direction and conception: Herbert Eisenschenk ). Summereder completed the first complete recording of the organ works by Anton Heiller (1923–1979) in 2014 on the Bruckner organ of the St. Florian Monastery Basilica near Linz.
Summereder is married to the organist Angela Amodio ; the two also give concerts together and play works for two organs.
