Eberhard Würzl

Eberhard Adolf Würzl (born November 1, 1915 in Vienna ; † September 11, 2003 there ) was an Austrian teacher and music researcher .

Live and act

Eberhard Würzl first attended grammar school in Seitenstetten (as a choirboy) and the federal grammar school in Linz and graduated from the federal teacher training institute in Vienna's first district in 1935 with the Matura. He then studied organ, music theory and composition at the Academy for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna , and in November 1939 he completed his studies with the teaching examination “Music in High Schools”.

As a member of the Austrian Cartel Association , he joined the "Austrian Freedom Movement" of Klosterneuburg canon Karl Roman Scholz in 1939 . In 1940 he was drafted into the German Wehrmacht and after betrayal by the resistance group on January 18, 1941, he was transferred to the Gestapo in Vienna, from where he returned to his troops after six weeks for lack of evidence. In 1945 Eberhard Würzl became a prisoner of war in Russia, from which he returned in 1947.

From 1948 to 1961 he taught as a music teacher at the Vienna Bundesrealgymnasium Stubenbastei , in 1961 he was appointed inspector for music education in the City School Council for Vienna and in 1972 he became associate professor and then in 1976 full professor for music education at the Academy for Music and Performing Arts Vienna.

After his retirement in 1980, Eberhard Würzl studied musicology and art history at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in 1987 with a dissertation on Johann Strauss (son) , with whom he had worked intensively throughout his life. In addition, he was involved in numerous Austrian musical institutions.
