Herbert Eisenschenk

Herbert Eisenschenk (born February 5, 1960 in Vienna ) is an Austrian documentary filmmaker and book author. He lives in Frankfurt / Main and Vienna.

Life

Eisenschenk was born and raised in Vienna. In his childhood he spent a long time on a mountain farm in Styria . A musical impression came through the four-year stay with the Vienna Boys' Choir .

Eisenschenk studied psychology , indology and musicology in Vienna . He graduated with honors from studying music theater directing at the University of the Performing Arts in Vienna.

Eisenschenk has worked as a film and TV director since 1988. His first book was published in 2017.

Working method

Work as a filmmaker

Documentation is the focus of Eisenschenk's cinematic work. In 2003 he founded the film production company Vermeer-Film in Vienna.

Content and role models

The focus of his films is on subjects from the arts, with a focus on music and the visual arts, as well as questions about life alternatives and social utopias.

Eisenschenk names the films by Werner Herzog (Gesualdo, Where the green ants dream),  Wim Wenders feature film Lisbon Story and Andrej Tarkowski as models for his own work .

Eisenschenk's artistic work focuses on considerations of classical art and culture. So he has u. a. Produced artist portraits of personalities from painting and music for Arte , ORF , ZDF , 3sat and various ARD broadcasters . Eisenschenk is also responsible for writing and directing most of his productions.

During his studies, Eisenschenk made his first extensive trips to India, and since then he has shared a "great love for Indian culture, for the country, its people, not least for its great cuisine." In continuation of his film documentary "Auroville - Another World is Possible." "(2013) about the international community founded in 1968 in southern India , the book" Experiment Auroville: Living at Your Own Risk ", which was published in October 2016, was created.
