Romanism
Romanism is the name for a style of Dutch painting of the 16th century. Romanism was based on Italian models such as Leonardo da Vinci , Michelangelo , Raphael and the Italian Mannerists . Bernard van Orley , Jan van Scorel , Frans Floris , as well as Maarten van Heemskerck , Pieter Coecke van Aelst , Lambert Lombard , Jan van Hemessen and Michiel Coxcie belonged to a first generation of Romanists . After his return from Rome, Frans Floris opened an influential workshop in Antwerp and had numerous students such as Crispin van den Broeck , Frans Pourbus the Elder. Ä. , Marten de Vos and Frans Francken d. Ä. The mannerist Bartholomäus Spranger , who later worked in Prague for Emperor Rudolph II , is also one of the Romanists.
