Romina Johnson (* 1973 in Rome ) is an Italian in London live R & B - Soul - UK garage - and 2-Step - singer .

biography

She is the daughter of the Italian American singer Wess alias Wesley Johnson. As a child, Johnson took a liking to soul, funk , R&B and jazz . She heard u. a. the music of Aretha Franklin , James Brown , Stevie Wonder , The O'Jays , Prince , Chaka Khan and Earth, Wind and Fire , which she found in her mother's collection. At the age of four she was sure that she would later follow in her father's footsteps as a singer. At the age of twelve she had her first appearance as his background singer .

At the age of 20, Johnson became a member of the band Second Floor , with whom she received her first recording contract with the Italian label Rossiter Road . The EP I Gotta Have You was released in 1996, followed in 1997 by Love and Happiness , a duet with her father. The first solo album, Simply Passion , was released in 1998 and contained the original version of the song Movin 'Too Fast , written with her uncle Orlando Johnson , which later became a hit as a feature with Artful Dodger .

After three years of membership, she left the group Second Floor for good in 1999 and moved to London to pursue her solo career. In the spring of 2000, the single Movin 'Too Fast rose to number 2 in the UK charts in the version with Artful Dodger . In the summer of that year, Johnson made it into the English charts a second and final time, this time with a feature with Luci Martin and Norma Jean from the New York band Chic . The song My Forbidden Lover , which was also released two years earlier, did not get past number 59.
