Romolo Nottaris (born July 9, 1946 in Lugano ) is a Swiss mountaineer , mountain guide and documentary writer. He lives in Lugano.

Life

Nottaris is one of the promoters of alpine style (i.e. renouncing bolts, fixed ropes, prepared bearings, bottled oxygen, carriers, other outside help). In 1978 he founded New Rock to sell outdoor gear. This allows him to finance his expeditions and to support some mountaineers like Ueli Steck and the Anthamatten brothers. In 1983 he organized his first expedition to the Himalayas . Nottaris returned to the Himalayas several times, especially with Erhard Loretan and Jean Troillet . Alaska , Patagonia, and Antarctica are also regions in which he leads expeditions and produces documentaries.
