Ali Yavaş (* 1950 ) is a former Turkish soccer player , coach and official. Through his many years of work for Galatasaray Istanbul , he is very strongly associated with this club. On fan and club pages he is seen as one of the legendary players in club history. In addition to his football career, he also worked for the club as a manager and coordinator of the youth department. In the latter role, he discovered and promoted later national players such as Arda Turan , Sabri Sarıoğlu , Aydın Yılmaz and Semih Kaya .
Player career
society
Yavaş began playing football for Istanbul's second division club Karagümrük SK . At this club he was included in the professional squad for the 1967/68 season and completed eleven league games during his first season. In his second season he rose to become a regular player and ended the season with 25 league appearances. In the summer of 1969, his club missed relegation and rose to the 3rd Futbol Ligi , the then third-highest Turkish league. The next two seasons in Yavaş's career are undocumented. In the 1971/72 season he played for third division club DÇ Karabükspor and attracted attention here. With his club he ended the third division season 1971/72 as a champion, rose with this to the 2nd Futbol Ligi and participated in the first second division participation of the club.
After this season he was committed by the western Turkish first division club for the upcoming 1972/73 season. At his new club, he established himself as a regular player during his first season, consolidated it in his second season and became one of the most sought-after players of the 1974 summer transfer period.
Although Yavaş had received offers from the other Istanbul clubs Beşiktaş and Fenerbahçe in the 1974 summer transfer period , he accepted the offer from Galatasaray Istanbul early on and was then not changed by better offers from arch rivals Beşiktaş and Fenerbahçe. Moved to Galatasaray, Yavaş quickly fought for a regular place and kept it for about two and a half seasons. Yavaş 'career took a dramatic turn during the 1978 World Cup qualifier against the GDR national team on November 17, 1976. In this encounter he was injured in the 9th minute and had to be replaced. His injury turned out to be more serious than expected and so Yavaş fell out for about a year due to injury and was only able to play a competitive game again on September 11, 1977. After his injury, Yavaş was never able to build on his old form and only came to sporadic appearances.
After he was not used in the 1979/80 season, he ended his career at the age of 30 in the summer of 1980 with a farewell game organized on August 11, 1980, in which Karabükspor met Galatasaray. During his time for the Istanbul team, he and his team won the Turkish Cup once : 1975/76 , twice the Prime Minister's Cup and once the TSYD Istanbul Cup .
National team
Yavaş 'international career began in 1975 with a commitment for the Turkish national team . From then on he was one of the regularly nominated national players for about a year and played almost all of Turkey's senior internationals. After he was seriously injured in the game of November 17, 1976 against the GDR national team , he could not find his way back to his old form and was no longer nominated.
In total, Yavaş completed seven full internationals for his country.
Trainer and functionary career
One year after the end of his playing career, the Istanbul amateur club Tophane SK took over as coach in 1981 .
In 1982 he was appointed manager at Galatasaray Istanbul and stayed in that position for about a season.
In June 1988 he was hired as a manager at the third division side Kasımpaşa Istanbul . In this role he led the club to the championship of the 3rd Futbol Ligi at the end of the season and thus, after 22 years, to participate in the 2nd Futbol Ligi again . After this success he took over Kasımpaşa as head coach in June 1989. Just four months later, he resigned from his position as head coach.
In November 1989 he took over İstanbulspor as head coach, succeeding his former team-mate Mustafa Yürür . He left this club during the winter break and was replaced a short time later by Soner Metiner .
After Yavaş's former player- mate Fatih Terim took over the post of head coach at Galatasaray, Yavaş was appointed head of the youth department. In this position he worked until November 2008 and resigned after a controversy with the club's president Adnan Polat . While working for the head of the youth department, he discovered and promoted talents and future national players such as Arda Turan , Sabri Sarıoğlu , Aydın Yılmaz and Semih Kaya .
In the spring of 2009 he started to work at the Azerbaijani club FK Qəbələ as head of the youth department.
