Ron Aspery

Ronald "Ron" Aspery (born June 3, 1943 in Middlesbrough , † December 10, 2003 in Saltdean, East Sussex ) was a British fusion musician ( alto and soprano saxophone , flute , keyboard ).

Aspery learned the saxophone from the age of twelve and played first in the Middlesbrough Municipal Junior Orchestra and with his teacher Jimmy Carr, then as a professional musician in the orchestra of Eric Delaney; next to it he jammed with Colin Hodgkinson . In 1971 he founded the fusion trio Back Door with them , which existed until 1977, recorded several albums and successfully toured internationally. He had the opportunity to perform with Miles Davis in London and Paris . Over the next few years he performed with Chris Rea , Status Quo , Ronnie Scott and Keith Richards . He also performed often with Alexis Korner and appeared on some of his records. He played with Ray Russell's RMS , Gil Evans and Mark Isham at the 1983 Montreux Jazz Festival . In 1984 John Williams brought him to his crossover band Sky , with whom he also went on tour in Australia. He also directed the English Jazz Quartet at the Jazz At The Mill festival in Adelaide in 1988 . In 2003 there were several concerts with Backdoor , which were also documented on the CD Askin 'the Way . In the course of his career there have been many guest contributions to recordings by well-known artists, such as B. Roger Daltrey , Roger Glover , Glenn Hughes , Meat Loaf and Whitesnake .
