Ronald Edward "Ron" Santo (* 25. February 1940 in Seattle , Washington ; † 2. December 2010 in Scottsdale , Arizona ) was an American baseball player who in the US professional league - usually in the position of third base Mans - before played mostly for the Chicago Cubs . His shirt number 10 is no longer given to any other player by the Cubs. He was the only professional baseball player in MLB history to play despite suffering from diabetes .
