Ron Tussing

Ronald "Ron" Tussing (born November 8, 1946 in Buffalo , New York ) is a former US police officer and Mayor of Billings .

Life

Tussing was born in the State of New York, but moved early to Nebraska , where he criminal law ( criminal justice ) at the University of Nebraska study. There he earned a Bachelor of Arts and worked in the police service from the late 1960s. In 1986, Tussing was elected Sheriff of Lancaster County and confirmed in office four years later. Shortly after his re-election, he was appointed superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol by the governor . In 1997, Ron Tussing took over the management of the Billings Police Department in Montana . The city had advertised this post nationwide to provide stability at the head of the city police, which had had three heads in seven years.

But even Tussing had no lasting success as head of the Billings Police Department. Lengthy disputes with those responsible for the city administration ended in 2005 with his resignation. Just three weeks later, Tussing decided to run for the office of Mayor of Billings. He won the November 2005 election with 53.84% against his challenger Al Garver . In January 2006, Ron Tussing succeeded Chuck F. Tooley , the longest serving mayor of Billings at the age of ten.

Tussing's four-year tenure was unfortunate. While he created a homeless committee and a city energy efficiency commission , he was also responsible for some costly litigation. In 2008 he tried unsuccessfully for a seat on the Montana Public Service Commission (PSC) . In the mayoral election in 2009 Tussing did not run, his successor was Tom Hanel - also a former police officer.

Ron Tussing taught Victimology and Crime Prevention as an Adjunct Professor at Montana State University - Billings . He belongs to the Democratic Party .
