Ronald "Ron" Webster (born June 21, 1943 in Belper , Derbyshire ) is a former English football player who won the English championship in 1972 and 1975 with Derby County .
Player career

Ron Webster made his debut on March 24, 1962 for the English second division club Derby County . Webster quickly established himself with his hometown club and spent the next few years in the Second Division. It was only with the arrival of the new coach Brian Clough and assistant coach Peter Taylor at the beginning of the 1967/68 season that the most successful period in the club's history began. In the Second Division 1968/69 Derby managed to return to the First Division after 16 years. The start in the top English division began very successfully in the 1969/70 season with fourth place. After a ninth place in 1970/71 Derby County won the first league title in the club's history in 1971/72 . The defensive around goalkeeper Colin Boulton and the defenders Roy McFarland , Colin Todd , Terry Hennessey and Ron Webster (38 games / 1 goal) conceded only 33 goals in 42 league games. In the 1972/73 season County could not repeat this success with 7th place, but the team managed to move into the semi-finals of the European Cup of National Champions 1972/73 . After u. a. Ron Webster (24 games / 1 goal) continued to form the defensive with Boulton, McFarland, Todd and David Nish and secured the title in front of Liverpool FC . The second start in the 1975/76 European Cup ended in the second round. Derby failed after two legendary games 4: 1 and 1: 5 after extra time against Spanish champions Real Madrid . The performance in the league deteriorated significantly after a fourth place in 1975/76 in the two following years and Ron Webster ended his career at Derby in 1978 at the age of 35.
