David John Nish (born September 26, 1947 in Burton-upon-Trent ) is a retired English football player . His greatest successes as a player were winning the English championship in 1975 with Derby County and moving into the final of the FA Cup 1968/69 with Leicester City . Between 1973 and 1974 he played five games for the English national team .

Player career

Leicester City

David Nish made his debut on December 3, 1966 at the age of eighteen for Leicester City in the Football League First Division 1966/67 and scored his first goal directly in the game against Stoke City . By the end of the season, the young defender played another seventeen league games. After an eighth place in his first season, the performance of the club deteriorated and led to a thirteenth place in 1967/68 in the 1968/69 season to relegation to the second-rate Second Division. The team around Peter Shilton , Allan Clarke and the 21-year-old team captain David Nish was more successful in the FA Cup 1968/69 when Leicester reached the final of the prestigious competition . However, City lost the final game after a goal by Neil Young with 0-1 against Manchester City . His fifth and last international match he played a year later on May 18, 1974 against Scotland.
