Rosa Carola Streitmann , from 1885 by Jenny , from 1888 Benvenisti (born February 21, 1857 in Vienna as Rosalia Streitmann ; † July 30, 1937 there ) was an Austrian operetta singer and vocal teacher .

Life

Streitmann was the daughter of a stockbroker, her brother was the operetta singer Karl Streitmann . She is said to have initially enjoyed ballet training with Virgilius Calori , but then turned to singing under pressure from her parents. She received lessons from her aunt Rosa Csillag . A first public appearance is mentioned in the press in February 1875. In June 1876 she made her debut at the Carlstheater in Offenbach's Schönröschen , at the world premiere of Franz von Suppès Boccaccio she sang the role of Fiametta . In 1881 she moved to the Theater an der Wien .

In December 1885, Streitmann married Fritz von Jenny, a grandson of Franz von Suppès . However, a short time after the wedding, he lived with Streitmann's sister-in-law Louise . The resulting scandal resulted in several lawsuits.

Then Streitmann worked briefly in Moscow (1886), at the Berlin Walhalla Theater and at the Wallnertheater (1887). In her second marriage she was married to Heinrich Benvenisti from 1888, this marriage was divorced in 1898.

Their engagement in the Theater in der Josefstadt, begun in 1889, ended with mutual accusations and a process from which Streitmann emerged victorious. After a stay abroad (possibly in Paris) she returned to Vienna in 1893, where she sang again at the Carlstheater in 1897. She made her last stage appearance in 1900 at the Theater Central-Halle in Hamburg .

At the latest since 1897 she worked as a singing teacher, from 1905 for the Kaiser music schools .

From 1920 on, Streitmann lived in poor conditions, first in Gumpendorfer Strasse, and finally in Baden . She died in the General Hospital and was buried in the Central Cemetery on August 2, 1937 .
