action

Bruce Clarks, ambulance pilot, undertakes another private flight after a business flight. Colleague Ray, pilot on duty that day, does not approve of this, but lets him fly. Bruce wants to fly to Bristol to see his secret lover Amy, Ray's cousin, with whom he already has a small child. He tells his wife Dana that he has to work overtime. Bruce does not arrive in Bristol, however, because his helicopter crashes, resulting in a fatal accident.

After the funeral , his wife Dana threatens to file a complaint against the flight ambulance, whose patron is Lord Bingford, because her husband has exceeded the maximum permitted flight times. Bingford, who does not want to get into a bad reputation, has the official report falsified and with a heavy heart dismisses Ray. Dana does not hear the truth and is content with a dismissal as a consequence.

But Ray does not want to be used as a scapegoat and therefore plans to visit the widow Dana and enlighten her. On the way to her, he meets her, whose car has broken down on the road, and, if she wishes, drives her to Lord Bingford without knowing who she is. Dana, whose daughter Tilda works as a stable helper in Bingford's horse stud, wants to restore an old pavilion on their property, as it is of historical importance but is to be demolished. Bingford gives her three days to do it.

Ray falls in love with Dana and it becomes increasingly difficult for him to tell her the truth about himself and her husband. But that is inevitable, as Tilda sniffed into Ray's apartment, found her deceased father's wedding ring there and now confronts him with it. Bruce had gambled away the ring in poker . Dana is shocked and does not want to believe him at first, until Lilly, a doctor she lives with, advises her to approach Ray again. Ray previously told Lilly the truth credibly.

To make matters worse, Amy joins the action, with her and Bruce's little child Joy. She wants to speak to Dana, but she refuses. It turns out that Amy has leukemia , is about to die, and wants her child to be in good hands. Amy and Ray get married spontaneously so that Ray can have custody of the child after their death. Finally Dana decides to be with Ray and raise the child with him. Knowing this, Amy dies satisfied at Ray's hand.

With Ray's help, Dana is able to restore the Bingford Pavilion and, to her delight, is given further jobs on its property. Tilda can prove herself in dressage and is allowed to take part in a competition that she successfully competes. She is in love with Otis, the son of Lord Bingford, and gets together with him.

After Joy is christened, the film ends with Dana and Ray flying together in a helicopter. Ray gets his beloved job as a rescue pilot back from Bingford.
