Rosilda de Freitas , known as Rose de Freitas (born January 23, 1949 in Caratinga , Minas Gerais ) is a Brazilian politician of the Podemos party (PODE). In 2015 she became Federal Senator for the State of Espírito Santo .

Life

Rosilda de Freitas is the daughter of Valdemar Antônio de Freitas and Maria de Lurdes Teles de Freitas. She is married to Hugo Borges Júnior and has two children.

Political career

Freitas had joined the former Movimento Democrático Brasileiro from 1966, participated in popular movements in the late 1970s and joined an amnesty commission and the women's commission for human rights. During that time she also worked as a journalist and broadcaster. In the government of Fernando Henrique Cardoso , she became Finance and Administrative Director of the Embratur , an independent agency of the Ministry of Tourism. In 1982 she was elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Espírito Santo for the period 1983 to 1987 . In the 1986 elections , she had run as a federal representative for the state of Espírito Santo and was able to exercise this office from February 1, 1987 to January 31, 1995 and again, after an interruption, from February 1, 2003 to January 31, 2015 . She then stood for election as the first female senator for Espírito Santo from three senatorial posts.

In the 2014 elections , Freitas was elected to the Bundessenat for the first time, she was able to collect around R $ 5 million in donations from companies for the election campaign and found support in an electoral coalition made up of the PMDB, PSDB, DEM, SD, PEN, PROS and PRP parties . The election result was 776,978 or 46.23% of the valid votes.

In the 2018 elections , she ran for gubernatorial election, but received only 5.47% of the vote. She was able to continue her eight-year office as senator in the 56th legislative period , which lasted until 2023 .

In 2018 she was awarded the Diploma Bertha Lutz by the Federal Senate .
