The Roseau River (also: Queen's River ) is a river on the west coast of Dominica in the Parish of Saint George .

geography

The Roseau rises with several source streams on the southern slope of the Morne Macaque in the Morne Trois Pitons National Park . First the stream flows through the Titou Gorge . This gorge is approx. 100 m long. The creek has eaten its way through the dark volcanic rock and at the upper end of the gorge the Titou Gorge Falls flow , which can only be reached by swimming through the gorge.

The river runs to the west and forms the Trafalgar Falls (near Papillote ) about a kilometer below . Then it flows together with the Trois Pitons River , which rises from the northwest slope of the Morne Watt and thus borders the catchment area of ​​the Rivière Blanche . At Trafalgar , the Roseau River turns south for the first time and flows through the Harlington Estate . From Wotten Waven it receives an inflow from the east and left of the River Blanc , as well as from a sulfur-containing spring Wotten Waven . Then the river already enters the lowlands while the foothills of the central volcanic chain accompany it. The river winds its winding course to the west and south. At Shawford Estate it receives a tributary from La Riviere Padu and other streams that arise in the Golgotha area. After Fond Cani , the lower course begins, which is dammed up at Bellevue Rawle Estate to the Goodwill Reservoir . There the River Claire flows from the left and southeast and the river enters the settlement area of ​​Roseau-Pottesville. At Emsal Estate the River Douce , which is also developed as a Roseau Reservoir , flows from the left and south . Further on, the river meanders through the residential areas of Roseau, past Windsor Park, and then flows into the Caribbean Sea in the center of Roseau .
