Rosemary Dunsmore (* 1953 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a Canadian film and theater actress, director and acting teacher.

Life

Dunsmore has performed in Canadian theater since the mid-1970s. She appeared in productions of Sam Shepard's Buried Child and Marsha Norman's Getting Out, among others . She has also been active in Canadian television productions since the early 1980s.

In 1982 she received a Dora Mavor Moore Award in the category Outstanding Performance by a Female in a Leading Role for her role in the play Straight Ahead / Blind Dancers .

She became known to an international audience in 1990 through a short but concise role as Dr. Lull in Paul Verhoeven's science fiction film Total Recall . In Canada, she is primarily associated with her roles in television productions such as Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel (1987), Avonlea - The City Girl (1990-1995) and Mom PI (1990).

In 2001 she received outstanding reviews for her role in Wit at the Montreal Centaur Theater and won the Masque Award for Best Actress. In 2005 she appeared at the Berkeley Street Theater Toronto in a production of the play The Glass Menagerie in the lead role of Amanda Wingfield .

Dunsmore received the Canadian ACTRA Award in 2009 for her role as the mother of a lesbian girl who wanted to have children in The Baby Formula .

Dunsmore has directed various theater productions including the Atlantic Theater Festival, the Utah Shakespeare Festival and the Mantiba Theater Center.

As an acting teacher, she has taught at the University of Toronto , Equity Showcase, National Theater School and the Canadian Film Center.
