Rosenthal is a district of Rosenthal-Bielatal , district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains . Until 1994 it was an independent municipality.

Rosenthal was first mentioned in 1356 and at that time it belonged to Bohemia . In 1452 a hammer mill was mentioned. In 1503 Rosenthal fell to Electoral Saxony . The hammer mill was shut down in 1726.

There were several mills in the municipality , which were transformed into tourist businesses in the 19th century. In 1837 a cold water facility was set up, and so the district of Schweizermühle was created as a spa and summer resort . The spa operation was discontinued in 1912 and the establishment continued to be run as a vacation home by Maggi . During the GDR it was used as a retirement home and a pulmonary hospital and finally abandoned in 1994.

During the GDR, a sawmill became a branch of VEB Karosseriewerk Dresden , which assembled caravans under the Bastei brand

In 1994 the merger with Bielatal took place in the course of the regional reform in 1994 .
