Location of Rossenray in North Rhine-Westphalia |
Rossenray is a district of the town of Kamp-Lintfort in the Wesel district in North Rhine-Westphalia . Until 1935 Rossenray was an independent municipality in what was then the district of Moers .
geography
The Rossenray district is bounded in the north by the city limits of Rheinberg , in the east by the city limits of Moers , in the south by Moerser Strasse and in the west by Friedrichstrasse. Quarry ponds, former colliery grounds and agricultural areas take up the majority of the district. A dense residential area is located in the south of the district on Moerser Straße. The former municipality of Rossenray had an area of 5.92 km².
history
Rossenray was originally a peasantry and formed a rural community in the mayor's Vierquartieren since the 19th century (from 1928 Amt Vierquartieren ). This belonged to the Geldern district until 1857 and to the Moers district since 1857. On April 1, 1934, Rossenray became part of the new town of Kamp-Lintfort. In the course of the 20th century the character of the originally purely agricultural community changed. Several quarry ponds were created, the urban development of Kamp-Lintfort extended to Rossenray and from 1963 to 2011 a coal mine was operated in Rossenray .
In October 2019, the dismantling of the winding tower of the former mine, which can be seen from afar, began. The dismantling should be completed by the end of 2020.
