Rossini Opera Festival Pesaro

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rossini Opera Festival Pesaro is an opera festival in Gioacchino Rossini's native city of Pesaro .

In 1980 an opera festival was founded in Pesaro , which takes place annually in the summer months.

The performances take place in the 850-seat Teatro Rossini (built in 1818) and since 1988 in the modified "Palasport" sports arena, which can accommodate up to 1500 visitors. Since 2000, the Teatro Sperimentale has also been performing, which offers the opportunity to present smaller-cast works that are less popular. On the one hand, the festival (like the Rossini Festival in Wildbad ) is dedicated to Rossini's diverse opera works, on the other hand, a number of rare works from his environment were performed - for example by contemporaries Pietro Generali and Carlo Coccia  - as well as parallel settings of some of the textbooks composed by Rossini, about Luigi Mosca and Giuseppe Mosca .

The festival quickly made a name for itself as an institution that performed seldom performed works by Rossini for the first time or presented them in full for the first time. A number of productions have not only been broadcast on radio and television, but have also been released on CD or DVD.

In 2015 the festival received the International Opera Award for the rediscovery of Aureliano in Palmira (directed by Mario Martone ).

The festival is a member organization of the European Festivals Association .
