The Rosskopf ( Italian Monte Cavallo ) is the easternmost branch of the Aggls-Rosskopf ridge in the Stubai Alps and the local mountain of the city of Sterzing in South Tyrol , Italy . The grassy summit bears a cross and reaches a height of 2189 m slm
Development
The climb to the top is easy. Either you first take the path to Sterzingerhaus ( 1930 m ) and from there follow the eastern ridge in 40 minutes to the summit, or you can approach the Rosskopf from the Ochsenscharte ( 2176 m ) over the western ridge in 1 hour. This ascent requires surefootedness and mountain experience. As a ridge crossing, the not entirely easy but marked transition to the Telfer Weißen ( 2588 m ) in approx. 2 hours is recommended.
On the eastern slopes there is a ski area and opportunities for cross-country skiing. The Rosskopf area is also the starting point for various high-altitude hiking trails.
Transmitting location
The broadcasting company Südtirol operates the broadcasting station Rosskopf on the crest of the mountain that descends from the summit in a northeastern direction. It broadcasts various programs (VHF radio and television).
