The Rothbach is a left and the first major tributary on the course of the Moder . It is almost 23 km long and contributes to the drainage of the Northern Vosges .
Surname
The name of the stream has nothing to do with the color red, but derives from the word clearing, which means stream in cleared land . Today the slopes on the upper reaches are densely wooded again.
geography
course
The source of the Rothbach is a little south of the source of the Northern Zinsel , but already in Alsace , above Reipertswiller , which is the first place on the stream. The brook flows past numerous mills in many windings in a south-easterly direction to the village of Rothbach , where it reaches the Rhine plain . At Bischholtz it leaves the area of the Vosges du Nord Regional Nature Park and flows via Mulhausen to Pfaffenhoffen , where it joins the Moder from the left.
Catchment area
The catchment area of the Falkensteinerbach is 174.9 km² and consists of 35.40% agricultural area, 59.14% forest areas and 5.35% built-up areas.
