Rothenbach is a district of the local community Kelberg in the Vulkaneifel district in Rhineland-Palatinate .
Geographical location
Rothenbach is located about four kilometers northwest of the main town on the stream of the same name, a left tributary of the Trierbach .
history
The name Rothenbach is derived from a mineral spring in the village, which was colored red by the iron oxide it contained.
Rothenbach is first mentioned in 1563, the hamlet of Meisenthal earlier in 1459. In Meisenthal, a chapel from 1708 is still preserved, the chapel in Rothenbach from 1773 was replaced in 1950 by a new building.
On January 1, 1970, the previously independent local community Rothenbach, together with Meisenthal, was incorporated into the local community Kelberg.
