history

Edwin Rothenberger founded the Rothenberger trading house on May 24, 1949. In 1967 it developed the Rothenberger R-System tools for pipe installation without fittings .

In 1974 the company moved into new office, storage and production facilities in Kelkheim (Taunus) . In the same year, the Rothenberger brothers took over overall responsibility for the company. It expanded to other European countries in 1976 with the establishment of subsidiaries. In 1979 the Danish soldering device manufacturer Exact in Aalborg was bought, and in 1981 the largest pipe hand tool factory in Europe, Super EGO in Spain . In the same year the Muller, Unicum and FOP tool group was established in France .

Helmut Rothenberger took over as CEO of Rothenberger AG in 1985. In 1990 she bought Rico, a provider of canal TV systems, and in the following year the Kroll Group in Wesel , Hamburg and Berlin . Eastern European sales companies in Hungary , the Czech Republic , Poland and Bulgaria were established in 1992.

In 1998 Dr. Helmut Rothenberger Holding GmbH in Salzburg holds the majority in the Rothenberger Group. In 1999 the company inaugurated a new headquarters in Kelkheim. In 2000 the e-commerce platform nexMart was set up for the Rothenberger organization. The company expanded with sales companies in South Africa , China , Brazil and Turkey .

In 2002 the Sievert Group, a manufacturer of soldering tools , was transferred to the company. In 2004 Rothenberger USA concluded a joint venture with the Greenlee / Textron company to develop the North American market.

In 2005 Hellmers Umweltfahrzeuge was taken over by the Kroll Group, and 100% in Ruko Spezialwerkzeuge. Another takeover in 2006 was eurodima Diamant-Technik GmbH, a leading producer of drilling and sawing machines and diamond tools in concrete processing; thereby eurodima became EDT Eurodima GmbH. The company expanded to Central Eastern Europe and India . Subsidiaries were established in Dubai and India.

The Rothenberger TEC-Center was inaugurated in Kelkheim in 2008 and the company's 60th anniversary was celebrated in 2009.

In 2011, Rothenberger AG took over all of the shares and trademark rights of Virax SAS, the leading competitor in France

In 2013, Helmut Rothenberger moved from the CEO to the Supervisory Board, which he has since taken over as chairman.

More than 28 million tools are developed, produced and sold by over 1,600 employees every year. The company is part of the Dr. Helmut Rothenberger-Holding GmbH based in Anif / Salzburg ( Austria ), which in turn is owned by Dr. Helmut Rothenberger Privatstiftung . In addition to Rothenberger AG with its more than 60 subsidiaries, the holding also includes Autania AG with more than 25 other subsidiaries, Real GmbH (real estate) and other holdings (including Walter Werkzeuge Salzburg GmbH, Nordwest Handel AG).
