action

Ever since a little girl received a red cap from her grandmother, which the child likes to wear, people everywhere call her “Little Red Riding Hood”. Little Red Riding Hood lives with her mother and her five brothers in a house on the edge of the forest. Since the father passed away, Little Red Riding Hood's brothers have been working as lumberjacks to support the family. The little girl helps her mother around the house as best she can. When Little Red Riding Hood's grandmother fell seriously ill, the mother had to look after her while the girl did the work at home and also prepared the food for her five brothers.

After the mother is back, she tells Little Red Riding Hood that her grandmother would like her granddaughter to come visit her. Mother and daughter bake a cake that Little Red Riding Hood wants to take with her to grandmother, while her brothers go fishing. Since there is still dough left, Little Red Riding Hood has the idea to bake a small cake for each brother. The next morning Little Red Riding Hood makes her way to Grandmother's house with a basket in which she has stowed the cake she has baked herself and a bottle of wine. Her brothers keep her company until they get to the place where they have to do their work, which is logging.

On the way, the child meets the bad wolf and engages in a conversation with him; on request, it also tells the wolf the way to the grandmother. Little Red Riding Hood follows his suggestion to pick flowers for her grandmother. Although her mother has strictly forbidden her to deviate from the path, she leaves it to pick even more beautiful flowers. Meanwhile the wolf goes to the grandmother and devours the old woman skin and hair. When Little Red Riding Hood has picked so many flowers that she can barely carry, she remembers her grandmother. The child quickly continues on its way to her.

When Little Red Riding Hood steps into the room, she asks astonished: "Yes, grandmother, what big ears do you have?" "That I can hear you better," is the reply. "Yes, grandmother, what big eyes do you have?" "That I can see you better." "But grandmother, what big hands do you have?" "That I can grab you better," it sounds threateningly back. "But grandmother, what is the terrible big mouth you have?" "That I can eat you better," comes the sound from the bed, and then the wolf devours the poor girl.

After their work is done, the five brothers wait in vain for Little Red Riding Hood. The children wanted to walk the rest of the way home together. When they call for the girl, they meet the hunter who is after the wolf. The brothers tell him that they are worried about their sister. The hunter suggests that they go to the grandmother's house together. There they see the wolf lying in bed snoring. He wears his grandmother's night cap. The hunter cuts his stomach open and to their great joy they see Little Red Riding Hood and grandmother, both unharmed. The hunter has the brothers fetch heavy bricks, with which he fills the wolf's belly and then sews it up again. The wolf wakes up and goes outside complaining, where it dies because of the many rocks in its stomach. Everyone is happy that the villain is dead.

Little Red Riding Hood and her brothers return to their mother's home. They do not tell the mother about the adventure they had. When she asked how the grandmother was doing, the siblings replied that she was feeling much better. The mother replies: “If that is the case, you can all visit them together next Sunday. She hasn't seen you boys in ages. ”The children smile at each other, embarrassed.
