Red-tailed parakeets ( Pyrrhura ) are a genus of New World parrots from the subfamily of the real parrots (Psittacidae).
features
Red-tailed parakeets are slender, small to medium-sized parrots that reach a body length of 20 to 30 cm. They are essentially dark green and have a long, tapered, bluntly rounded, yellow to reddish tail . The upper part of their hand wings are usually blue, forehead, cheeks and shoulders are often red. Lined breast feathers give this part of the body a scaly look. The orbital ring is not feathered. The sexes do not differ in color.
distribution
The distribution area of the red-tailed parakeet includes tropical and subtropical South America and extends in the north to southern Central America . They are found in all Neotropical forests including the Amazon, Atlantic, Western Andes, and Central American forests.
Way of life
Red-tailed parakeets are forest-dwelling New World parrots.
