First ascent by locals

The Rotspitze (sometimes also called Rotspitz ) is a 2,033 meter high German mountain in the Allgäu Alps .

Location and surroundings

Due to its triangular shape, it appears dominant from the area around Sonthofen . To the northeast of the summit lies the Breitenberg ( 1893  m ), with which the Rotspitze is connected by a ridge that kinks to the north at right angles and culminates in the Heubatspitze ( 2008  m ). The northward part of the ridge (the Hohe Gänge ) is the last section of the Hindelang via ferrata .

The notch height of the Rotspitze is 139 meters down to Hasenecksattel ( 1895  m ), its dominance 1.7 kilometers, whereby the reference mountain is the small thumb .

Ascent

Marked paths with safety ropes lead to the Rotspitze. You can reach the summit from the Retterschwanger valley either from the north via the Häbelesgund , or from the south from the Haseneckalpe area.

  • Easy variant: Hinterstein (parking lot at the E-Werk) - Retterschwanger Tal to the well-signposted junction - through the forest, past the Unteren and Mittleren Haseneckalm directly to the Rotspitze (this variant initially takes a bit of an asphalt road, requires the last part, however, surefootedness and fitness)
  • Demanding variant: Hinterstein (parking lot at the E-Werk) - well signposted ascent through the forest and then on the north side ( Häbelesgund ) in serpentines directly up (this ascent requires absolute surefootedness and a head for heights , the last part of the ascent is secured with a rope, only closed recommend in case of drought)
  • Climbing variant (over the Breitenberg and the Hohen Gänge ): Hinterstein (parking lot at the E-Werk) - long walk south past Hinterstein ( pay attention to the signs to Breitenberg ) - behind Hinterstein ascent to Breitenberg - Untere Hütte - Obere Hütte - Breitenberg (1,893 m ) - over the Hohe Gänge (safety rope, ladder) and the Heubatspitze (2,008 m) to the Rotspitze (this ascent requires physical fitness, absolutely sure-footedness and a head for heights and is only recommended in dry conditions)
