Rotzkotz is a punk music group from Hanover that was founded in 1977. She is one of the first German punk bands. The group around Horst Illing (vocals, guitar) and Ernst-August Wehmer (vocals) as well as various changing musicians initially offered British-inspired punk rock in English. The second guitarist Dieter Runge went to New York in 1978 to join the New York Niggers . Runge now lives as a freelance artist in Hawaii and continues to make music under the name Dieter Osten.

description

Her first album, "much funny", was recorded in England in 1979 and was first released there. It is considered to be the first self-produced punk record in Germany. In mid-1980 the group received a record deal from EMI . After the single Problem / No Problem was revised and "ironed out" without consultation with the EMI group, they split up after the "Jubel 81" tour in dispute. Independent again, Rotzkotz stayed with the German language and released "Lebensfroh + Farbenfroh - The most beautiful German songs from Rotzkotz", a pop punk album on which they u. a. processed their experiences with EMI ( Aunt EMI ), but also set texts by the Dadaist Kurt Schwitters to music. However, disputes about the further direction of the band led to the separation in 1982. Horst Illing tried his hand at bizarre passions in the field of NDW and synth pop . In the following years, Horst Illing appeared again with changing musicians under the name Rotzkotz , occasionally also with Ernst-August Wehmer.

In 1994 Die Ärzte paid their respects to the band and took the title Kein Problem for their EP “ 1, 2, 3, 4 - Bullenstaat! " on. The song Gettin To None from the first LP also saw a new recording with German lyrics and a cover version . Under the title Shadows of the Past , the band re-recorded it for the 1981 album Lebensfroh + Farbenfroh . The cover version of the band Beatklub , sung in several languages, appeared under the title Chien d'amour on the maxi single Down at the Beatklub at midnight, distributed by ZickZack Records .
