The Route nationale 42 (RN 42) is a 98 km long, unpaved national road in Madagascar . It leads from Fianarantsoa in a westerly direction via the old royal city of Isorana to Ikalamavony . It is classified as a Route nationale temporaire (temporary national road) because it is difficult or impossible to pass during the rainy season. The first 37 km to Isorana had already been paved in the 1960s, but the asphalt surface has been destroyed, apart from small remains, due to a lack of repairs.
