Rouven Schröder (born October 18, 1975 in Arnsberg ) is a former German football player . He is the sports director of 1. FSV Mainz 05 .

Player career

In his youth, Schröder played at SV Arnsberg and SC Neheim . Then he went to SSV Meschede . In 1999 he moved to VfL Bochum II . For the 2000/01 season he rose to the first team in the Bundesliga . Here he played eight times in the highest German class. After relegation, the defender played 16 times in the 2nd Bundesliga and scored three goals.

For the 2002/03 season, Schröder moved to league rivals MSV Duisburg . After 32 games in the second division and one goal and four games in the second team, he left the club for VfB Lübeck in the regional league . Here he played 92 games and scored five goals.

For the 2007/08 season , the 1.87 meter tall central defender returned to VfL Bochum's second team. He played 53 times in three seasons. After two games in the 2009/10 season, Schröder went back to VfB Lübeck in January 2010. He left the club a short time later and was temporarily without a club.

For the 2010/11 season he found a new club in the Schleswig-Holstein League with NTSV Strand 08 . After twelve games and one goal, he ended his playing career.

Functionary career

In the 2009/10 season, Schröder was assistant coach to Nicolas Michaty at VfL Bochum II, parallel to his playing career. He carried out this job until January 31, 2010. After moving to NTSV Strand 08 , he was assistant coach under Frank Salomon. With the end of 2010 he gave up this post again. After the end of his career, Schröder became a video analyst and scout for Bundesliga club 1. FC Nürnberg at the beginning of the 2010/11 season . On June 25, 2012 he became the coordinator of the licensing team of SpVgg Greuther Fürth . On January 4, 2013, he was promoted to sports director of Greuther Fürth. After head coach Mike Büskens was on leave of absence on February 20, 2013, Schröder temporarily managed the training operations of the Fürth Bundesliga team alongside interim coach Ludwig Preis .

At the end of the 2013/14 season, Schröder left SpVgg Greuther Fürth and moved to SV Werder Bremen as director of professional football and scouting.

From May 17, 2016 he was sports director at 1. FSV Mainz 05 . The newly elected supervisory board of the club unanimously appointed Schröder on July 3, 2017 as the sports director for another three years.
