Live and act

Gillespie is the son of a doctor. He grew up in Cyprus. In 1969 he first studied at the York School of Art, where he was taught, among other things, in bronze casting by Sally Arnup. The following year he attended Kingston College of Art in London and became a student of John Robson, through whom he met Henry Moore . He then studied at the Statens Kunstskole in Oslo and worked for three years at the Munch Museum Oslo , where he gave lectures. In 1977 he returned to his hometown Dublin. There he set up his own studio with a foundry. One of his larger assignments was an order from the Bank of Ireland for ATM All Stars trophies (1979). In 1989, Gillespie began to increasingly create works for public spaces, particularly in Dublin. In return, he exhibited less often. Most recently he took part in an exhibition in 1996.
