Roy L. Schneider

Roy Lester Schneider (born May 13, 1939 in Saint Thomas , US Virgin Islands ) is an American politician . Between 1995 and 1999 he was Governor of the US Virgin Islands.

Career

Roy Schneider studied medicine at Howard University in Washington, DC until 1965 , among other things. Between 1966 and 1968 he was a captain in the US Army . He was employed in the medical service as a doctor and medical advisor in the Vietnam War. For this he received the Bronze Star and a South Vietnamese award. After his military service, Schneider practiced as a doctor in his home country. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 1977 and 1987 he was Minister of Health of the Virgin Islands.

In the 1994 elections there, Roy Schneider was elected as the new governor of the outlying area. On January 5, 1995, he succeeded Alexander A. Farrelly . He was able to exercise this office until January 4, 1999. In 1998 he was not re-elected. He has not appeared politically since then.
