Roy Pieters (born June 12, 1989 in Haarlem ) is a Dutch cyclist .
Athletic career
In 2005 Roy Pieter became Dutch junior champion in scratch , in the single pursuit he finished second. In the following year he was able to win four national junior titles: in the pursuit, in the scratch, in the points trial and in the 1000-meter time trial , in the two-man team race he was runner-up with Christian Kos . In 2007 Pieters finished third in the scratch at the European Junior Track Championships in Cottbus . In the 2007/2008 winter season, he and Geert-Jan Jonkman won the overall ranking of the UIV Cup , a junior competition for six-day drivers .
In 2009 Roy Pieters was the Dutch elite champion in scratch and 2011 in two-man team driving (with Barry Markus ). He has been with an elite team without a contract since 2011, but continues to race on the road and track. Several times he took podium places at Dutch rail championships. In two races of the Track Cycling World Cup 2018/19 , he finished second in the two-man team, in Minsk with Wim Stroetinga and in Cambridge, New Zealand with Yoeri Havik .
Private
Roy Pieters comes from a successful cycling family: his father is the former racing driver and current trainer Peter Pieters , his younger sister the racing driver Amy Pieters (* 1991). The former cyclist and current official Sjaak Pieters is his uncle and the gymnast Ans Dekker is his aunt.
