Roy Thomas

Roy Thomas (born November 22, 1940 ) is an American comic book writer. He was Stan Lee's successor as editor-in-chief of Marvel . He was best known for his authorship on the series Conan the Barbarian . He also wrote the screenplay for the cartoon Fire and Ice .

Life

Born in 1940, Roy Thomas was already enthusiastic about comics in his childhood. After graduating from college in 1961, he worked as a teacher for four years. In 1965 he went to New York City and worked for DC Comics as an assistant to Mort Weisinger . In the same year he switched to Marvel Comics as a writer . His first comic was Whom Can I Turn To? in the series Modeling with Millie , number 44. He later wrote for the series Iron Man , Doctor Strange , X-Men and The Avengers, among others

In 1972, Thomas became editor-in-chief of Marvel Publishing, but continued to write comics, most notably Conan the Barbarian . After he gave up the post of editor-in-chief in 1974, work followed on, among others, The Fantastic Four , Spider-Man and Ghost Rider .

In 1981 Thomas went back to competing publisher DC for some time. In 1985 he returned to Marvel. In the 1990s, he finally devoted himself more to independent comics that appeared outside of the major publishers.
