location

The village is four kilometers north of Werneck on the Schleeriether Bach .

history

Schleerieth was first mentioned in 1150 as Gut Slerit . In 1241 the name of a Jutta von Slehenried was listed. The place name is currently composed of the old terms Sleha (= blackthorn ) and Riot (= reed, moor, swamp), is unique in Germany and means settlement on the sloe moor.

On July 1, 1972, the place was incorporated into the municipality of Werneck as part of the municipal reform.

In 1990 and 2000, the village received a gold medal at the district level in the competition Our village should become more beautiful . In 1991 a silver medal was won at the state level, followed by a silver medal at the federal level in 2001 ( see list of winners in the national competition Our village has a future ).

Economy and culture

Schleerieth is located near the Eschenbach and has always been characterized by agriculture due to its very good loess soils . As early as the 1960s, the place enjoyed the reputation of a fruit growing paradise, and since 1931 there has been a cooperative-based sweet cider press. The Schleeriether Mostfest takes place every second weekend in September .

Most employees commute to the industrial city of Schweinfurt, about 15 km away, or to Würzburg , Bamberg , Bad Kissingen or Bad Neustadt .

Worth seeing is the Catholic parish church Assumption that are Gaden plants and numerous shrines from the famous sandstone " Schlee Riether Green ". They come from the local quarry and can be found all over the Schleerieth corridor. They are provided with religious images, as the Catholic faith always prevailed in Schleerieth. A fossil horsetail was found in the quarry and can be viewed in the Werneck town hall.

Schleerieth is well connected to the A 7 , A 70 , A 71 and the former federal highway 19 .
