Egenhausen is a district of the market Werneck in the district of Schweinfurt in Lower Franconia .

location

The place is surrounded by fields and meadows, 6.5 kilometers north of Werneck and ten kilometers west of Schweinfurt . The rural old town is a typical street village . In the west there is an extensive settlement area. A little to the west, on the edge of the Brunnholz forest area , the Teufelsgraben rises , which runs through the town in the south and flows into the Wern via the Stöckichsbach . The Franconian Marienweg runs through Egenhausen .

history

Egenhausen was first mentioned in a document in 890. Historical forms of the place name are "Egininhusa", "Eginhusen", "Engenhusin" and "Eckenhusen", which can be traced back to "to the houses of Egino". In 1972, the previously independent municipality of Egenhausen was incorporated into Werneck as part of the municipal reform.

Economy and Infrastructure

The place is characterized by agriculture. Many residents also commute to Schweinfurt's industry.

Buildings

The most important architectural monument is the Catholic parish church of St. John the Baptist with the associated cemetery. There are also several wayside shrines in the village .
