Eckartshausen is a district of the market Werneck in the Lower Franconian district of Schweinfurt .

geography

Eckartshausen is about 15 kilometers west of Schweinfurt and four kilometers north of Werneck. With its 420 inhabitants, Eckartshausen is the third smallest town in the Werneck market.

The only remote farm in the area is the Schornmühle, one kilometer west of the village. The Eschenbach meanders south of the village in an easterly direction. It gives the valley its name and flows into the upper Wern between Schnackenwerth and Ettleben .

history

Eckartshausen was probably built at the beginning of the 9th century. It was named after a certain " Otger ". The place was first mentioned in 1161. Old forms of the name are Oggeshusen, Eckericheshusen and Oeggershusen.

Agriculture has always played a subordinate role. Because of the poor quality of the arable land, arable farming never had good conditions. That is why the men made their living early on as stone masons (in the local quarry), bricklayers or pavers . Eckartshausen is therefore also known as the "village of pavers".

As a result of the war and exacerbated by the plague , the number of families in the Thirty Years' War had fallen from 35 to 13 in 1637. There were 14 killed in World War I and 16 in World War II . The place was spared direct war damage.

On January 1, 1978, the previously independent municipality of Eckartshausen was incorporated into the municipality of Werneck as part of the municipal reform.

Attractions

The Marian pilgrimage church from 1467 with the miraculous image of Mater Dolorosa is worth seeing . The church, a branch of the Schleerieth parish , is built in the Gothic style and is interesting in terms of art history. Particularly striking are the Juliusturm, the Gothic choir, the buttresses and the pointed arched portals. Several Franconian noble families are considered builders. The pilgrimage church is located on the Jakobusweg and the Franconian Marienweg . Between 2008 and 2010 it was renovated inside and out.

There is also a private museum of rural culture. It was set up by Richard Reinhart and contains a collection of traditional peasant clothes.
