Royal City is a city ( City ) in Grant County in the State of Washington . As of the 2010 United States Census , Royal City had 2,140 residents.

history

Royal City was founded in 1956 and officially recognized as a city on February 14, 1962. The location was formerly called Royal Flats, the entire area Royal Slope, hence the name Royal City. In the 1960s there was a Titan-I-ICBM silo near the city .

Today, the small agricultural community is mainly known for the wide variety of agricultural crops that can grow thanks to the long growing season. Apples, cherries, peaches, timothy and alfalfa (which are used to make hay), melons, potatoes, onions, wine, pears, mint and corn are grown in the area. The Royal Slope Area is popular with bird watchers, hunters and golfers.

The Royal Knights of Royal High School won Division 1A in state football in 1996, 2000, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2015, 2016 and 2017. Her mascot and her colors, black and gold, were chosen by the student representatives in 1965.

As of the 2010 census , there were 2,140 residents, 486 households and 439 families in Royal City. The population density was 612 / km². There were 494 housing units at a mean density of 141.3 / km².

The population was 45.7% white , 1.2% African American , 0.8% Indian , 0.9% Asian , 48.7% other "races" and 2.7 % % from two or more "races" . Hispanics or Latinos of "any race" made up 88.7% of the population.

Of the 486 households, 72.2% were housed by children under the age of 18, 62.1% were run by married couples living together , 11.5% by single mothers and 16.7% by single fathers; 9.7% were non-families. 4.9% of households were singles and 2% were single people over 65 years of age. The average household size was 4.26 and the average family size was 4.2.

The median age in the city was 22.4 years. 40.1% of the population were under 18, 14.7% between 18 and 24, 30.6% between 25 and 44, 11.8% between 45 and 64 and 2.9 65 years or older. 53.3% of the population were men and 46.7% women.

Census 2000

As of the 2000 census , Royal City had 1,823 residents, 444 households, and 380 families. The population density was 558.6 / km². There were 504 housing units at a mean density of 154.4 / km².

The population consisted of 66.32% white , 0.38% African American , 0.38% Indian , 0.55% Asian , 29.9% other "races" and 2.47 % % from two or more "races" . Hispanics or Latinos of "any race" made up 78.22% of the population.

Of the 444 households, 64.6% had children under the age of 18, 67.3% were lived by married couples living together, and 8.8% by single mothers; 14.4% were non-families. 10.6% of households were singles and 5.9% were single people over 65 years of age. The average household size was 4.1 and the average family size was 4.33.

The median age in the city was 24 years. 40.3% of the population were under 18, 12.4% between 18 and 24, 31.9% between 25 and 44, 11% between 45 and 64 and 4.4 65 years or older. There were 126.2 men for every 100 women, and 132 men for every 100 women over the age of 18.

All information on median income relates to the median. The median household income was US $ 28,529 compared to US $ 29,821 for families. Men had a median income of US $ 19,643 versus US $ 22,917 for women. The per capita income was US $ 9,502. About 24% of families and 26.7% of the total population lived below the poverty line ; this affected 35% of the under 18 year olds and 7.9% of the over 65 year old.
