Rubus geoides is a species of the genus Rubus . It occurs exclusively in southern South America (Argentina and Chile).

description

Rubus geoides is a branching, creeping, perennial and runners- forming herbaceous plant . The plant is hairy, the stems slightly woody. The alternate stationary leaves are three parts feathered from ovate to oblong-circular leaflets with cut-lobed edge composed. The middle leaflet is significantly larger than the side, it is between 0.8 and 2.5 centimeters long and 1 to 2 centimeters wide. The stipules are pointed and membranous.

The hermaphroditic, radial symmetry flowers are terminal and solitary. The petals are white or pink in color. There are numerous stamens present. The large aggregate drupes are shiny red, edible and have a bitter-sweet taste.

distribution and habitat

Rubus geoides is native to Tierra del Fuego ( Argentina , southern Chile ), the Juan Fernández Islands and the Falkland Islands .

It inhabits open to partially shaded, moist locations between rocks, on meadows, between bushes, forest clearings and edges at altitudes between 0 and 550 m, Reiche reports up to 1800 m altitude.
