Ruby the Hatchet is an American psychedelic rock and doom metal band from New Jersey that was formed in 2011.
history
After several rehearsals, the band was formed in New Jersey in 2011 before moving to Philadelphia later . In the same year a self-titled EP was released . A short time later, the band consisted of guitarist Johnny Scarps, drummer Owen Stewart, bassist Mike Parise, keyboardist Sean Hur and singer Jillian Taylor. The following year the debut album Ouroboros was released . After a single in 2014 under the name Eliminator , the second album Valley of the Snake followed in 2015 . In the title song is the jazz - flautist Johnny scarps senior, father of guitarist to hear as a guest musician.
style
According to Fred Thomas from Allmusic , the band plays a mixture of doomy, evil hard rock and occult psychedelic rock. On the second album Valley of the Snake , the influences from stoner rock would have increased significantly. Alexandra Michels from Rock Hard assigned the band to Psychedelic Rock . In an interview with her, Jillian Taylor stated that the debut EP was written by three people before keyboardist Sean Hur joined them. Meanwhile the songs would be written together. Michels stated that Valley of the Snake has many religious and occult references. According to Taylor, religion doesn't play a big role in the personal lives of the band members, it's just intriguing. Boris Kaiser had reviewed the album an issue earlier. He too noticed references to occultism and heard influences from Doom Metal. You can also hear a Jon Lord organ. He compared Ruby the Hatchet to Blood Ceremony . In addition, the band is better than groups like Mount Salem, Purson and Jex Thoth .
