Athletic career

About the youth teams of FC Hirschhorn and VfB Eberbach Berhausen came in 1976 in the youth department of SV Sandhausen . In the season 1978/79 he made his debut under coach Klaus Sinn for the men's team in the third-class Oberliga Baden-Württemberg . After a coach change to Heinz Baas in the autumn of 1979, the defender established himself as a regular and contributed to winning the league championship in the 1980/81 season . Due to the amalgamation of the north and south seasons in the 2nd Bundesliga , however, there was no promoted team in that season.

Nevertheless, Berhausen came into the German lower house by joining the second division side Wormatia Worms . Here, however, he did not get beyond the status of a supplementary player, of his six games in the course of the 1981/82 season , he played four as a substitute. After the club's relegation at the end of the season, he returned to the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg, where he joined the new league SV Neckargerach . After eleven goals in 26 games, he moved on to league rivals VfR Mannheim after just one season together with teammate and 13-time goalscorer Jochen Kruppa . Under coach Rudi Dielmann he was a regular at the side of the ex-professionals Bernd Dobiasch , Peter Gadinger , Michael Schüssler and Karl-Heinz Walter . In the 1984/85 season , the team was runner-up in the Oberliga and qualified for the 1985 German Amateur Championship . There Berhausen retired with the team in the semifinals against the amateur team of SV Werder Bremen after two defeats. After a place in the lower midfield in the following year, he increasingly moved into the second tier.

In 1987 Berhausen moved to the league rivals SG Heidelberg-Kirchheim , where he trained under Gerd Störzer and met players like Lothar Schlapp , Ulrich Kretz and Dragan Antic . In 1989 he was relegated with the team to the Baden Association League , where he was active until 1993. In 1991 and 1992, as runner-up behind VfB Leimen and VfR Pforzheim, respectively , the team only narrowly missed promotion to the third division. He then let his career at VfB Eberbach end until 1996 .

Later Berhausen worked as a trainer in the north Baden amateur area and looked after the FV Nussloch and the VfB Rauenberg .
