Rudolf Feichtmayer

Rudolf Feichtmayer (born February 28, 1902 in Steyr , Upper Austria , † February 21, 1972 in Detmold ) was an Austrian opera singer (baritone).

Life

Feichtmayer first began studying at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna , but also studied singing and completed his singing studies as a student of Theo Lierhammer at the Vienna Music Academy .

In 1933 he made his debut at the Düsseldorf Opera House , of which he remained until 1937 (including participation in the German premiere of Jacques Ibert's Le Roi d'Yvetot ). Between 1937 and 1939 he was engaged at the Stadttheater Duisburg and then went to the Vienna Volksoper in 1939 . There he appeared in roles such as Sarastro ( Die Zauberflöte ), Rocco ( Fidelio ), Plumkett ( Martha ), Pogner ( Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg ), van Bett ( Tsar and Zimmermann ) and Ferrando ( The Troubadour ).

He made guest appearances at the Teatro Liceu in Barcelona in 1940 and several times at the Vienna State Opera since 1939 . After the Second World War he resumed his career at the Landestheater Salzburg in 1945 . In 1949/1950 he was engaged at the Graz Opera House . In May 1950 he sang the role of "King Heinrich the Vogler" in Richard Wagner's opera Lohengrin at a performance of the Vienna State Opera in the alternative quarters of the Theater an der Wien . Between 1951 and 1957 he was a member of the ensemble at the Landestheater Detmold .

His repertoire also included Basilio ( The Barber of Seville ), Gurnemanz ( Parsifal ), Hagen ( Twilight of the Gods ), Landgraf Herrmann ( Tannhäuser ), König Marke ( Tristan and Isolde ), Osmin ( The Abduction from the Seraglio ) and - in the Italian subject - Ramphis ( Aida ).

In 1958 he finally said goodbye to the stage.
