Rudolf Friedrich Heinrich Magenau (from 1844 von Magenau) (born December 5, 1767 in Markgröningen , † April 23, 1846 in Hermaringen ) was a German Protestant pastor , writer and local researcher .

family

Rudolf Magenau was the son of the town clerk and notary Jacob Friedrich Magenau (1744–1783) in Markgröningen and Eberhardine Rosine Andler (1743–1805). He married Henriette Friederike Wilhelmine Hagmaier (1758–1826) in Niederstotzingen in 1794 and they had eight children. Two of her sons were the mayor and member of the state parliament Eberhard August Magenau and the senior magistrate Jacob Friedrich von Magenau .

He attended the Latin schools in Markgröningen and Ehingen and the monastery schools in Denkendorf and Maulbronn. From 1786 he studied theology at the Tübingen monastery . In 1791 he finished his studies and became tutor and vicar in Markgröningen. In 1794 he took over the parish of Niederstotzingen and in 1819 the parish of Hermaringen , which he headed until his death.

Magenau was close friends with Friedrich Hölderlin , who in 1790 founded a poets' association with Magenau and Christian Ludwig Neuffer .

Magenau published the first collection of Swabian folk tales (as poems) printed as a book and several works on the local history of Brenzgau . He was also a member of the Württemberg Association for Patriotic Studies.

Honors

1844 Rudolf Magenau was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Württemberg Crown excellent, which with the personal title of nobility ( ennoblement was connected). The name of the primary school and a street in Hermaringen and the name of a street in Niederstotzingen and Markgröningen reminds of him .
