Rudolf Hoppe (theologian)

Rudolf Hoppe (born August 3, 1946 in Recklinghausen ) is a German, Roman Catholic New Testament scholar .

Life

After finishing school 1953–1966 (1953–1957 Kath. Volksschule Köln Buchheim, 1957–1966 Dreikönigsgymnasium ) he studied philosophy and Catholic theology in Bonn (1966–1969 and 1971) and Freiburg im Breisgau (1969/1970) from 1966 to 1971 ( Theological exam 1971). The doctoral program 1971-1974 at the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg he completed in spring 1976 with the graduation to the Dr. theol. (Supervisor: Anton Vögtle ) with the dissertation The Theological Background of the Letter of St. James . From 1974 to 1976 he completed his practical training in the seminary in Cologne . After being ordained a priest in Cologne in 1976 , he was a chaplain at the Catholic parish of St. Gereon (Monheim) from 1976 to 1981 . From 1981 to 1984 he was a full-time religion teacher in Leverkusen and Langenfeld , then from 1984 to 1986 research assistant at the Catholic Bible Works .

From 1986 to 1992 he was a senior teacher . H. at the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Bamberg . After the habilitation there in 1991 (supervisor: Paul Hoffmann ) with the habilitation thesis The Cross as Triumph - Studies on the Reception of the Pauline Theology of the Cross in the Epistle to the Colossians , he held the chair for introductory biblical sciences, biblical environment and kerygmatics at the Catholic Church from 1992 to 2001. Theological faculty of the University of Passau , of which he was dean from 1996 to 1998. From 2001 to 2011 he held the chair for Exegesis of the New Testament at the Catholic Theological Faculty and director of the New Testament seminar at the University of Bonn , where he was dean of the faculty from 2006 to 2008.
