Rudolf Israel

Rudolf Israel (born August 13, 1916 ; † 1985 ) was a major general in the Ministry for State Security (MfS) of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). He was deputy head of Department I (military defense).

Life

Israel learned the trade of dyer after attending primary school . After the Second World War he served from 1945 to 1950 within the German People's Police (DVP) in the Schutzpolizei . He joined the SED in 1946 and switched to the newly founded MfS in 1950. He started in the administration in 2000 , which was responsible for the supervision of the armed organs and was later transformed into main department (HA) I (control of the NVA) of the MfS. With the formation of the Kasernierte Volkspolizei (KVP) in 1952, he became, with the rank of lieutenant colonel, head of department I / 2 of HA I, which was responsible for the territorial administration north of the KVP. From March 1956 he was then responsible for the North Military District of the NVA . As Colonel of the MfS, he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze on October 5, 1964 . From 1967 to 1981 he was 1st Deputy Head of Main Department I. He was appointed major general on February 1, 1980 by the Chairman of the National Defense Council of the GDR , Erich Honecker .

In June 1981 he and his boss Karl Kleinjung were dismissed from the service and retired.
